昔のブルースマンは、世の憂うべきことを鋭く指摘し、巧みな表現で歌った。それが、人々の精神的な支えや慰めとなっていた。いつからか、憂うこと自体を放棄したかのような風潮が浸透していった。最近では、憂うことに目をそらす姿勢が、肯定的に演出されることが多いと感じる。でも、プラス思考やポジティブな考え方だけでは、表面的で崩れやすい、その場しのぎのものしか出てこないのでは。逆のものをも取り込んだ、もっと言えば、マイナス思考やネガティブなものを突き抜けたところに、真の、地に足のついたものが、出てくるんじゃないかな。この曲は、退廃的な世を歌い、またその事を的確に、巧みに表現できる歌い手がいなくなってしまった事を嘆いている。しかし、ディランはこの曲をボツにした。理由は「的確に歌えなかった」ということだ。とはいっても、こういう曲をつくる人じたい、少ない。平和や善を実現するために、そればかりをただ叫んでいる表現者や活動がたまに見られるが、そういった活動や表現者は、逆に事態を悪くしている可能性を疑いもしていないように見える。そういった方法での活動は、たいてい結局金儲けの道具にされている。それか、本当に問題のある部分をおおい隠してしまう。現在「平和の歌」や「平和のための」と名をうたれたものは、ほとんどがそういったものになってしまっている。人の善意が一部の偏った考え方によって、逆効果にされてしまっている。表面的な言葉や活動や考え方だけでは、逆にカモにされてしまう。気づかれないうちに・・・こういったことだけでなく、いろいろな時代の影を反映させながら、リアルに歌ってきたブルーズマンたち・・・。また、ミュージシャンと呼ばれている人々や、音楽界も、金儲けの道具になってしまっている。そのために、作家の方も、売れる事、受け入れられる事、自分の表現を追及することに、力を入れがちになってしまっている。マクテルなどのブルーズマンたちのような作家・表現者は、今、人々に求められていないのだろうか。いや、私は、本当はみんな渇望しているのだと思いたい。・・・（この動画では１番と２番まで歌っています）戸口の柱に刺さる矢には「この地は有罪を宣告されている。ニューオーリンズからエルサレムまでずっと」と書いてあった。僕はたくさんの犠牲者が傷ついて倒れた東テキサスをずっと旅してきた。そして僕にはわかる。ブラインド・ウィリー・マクテルのようにブルーズを歌える人は誰もいないことをやつらがテントを壊している時、僕はふくろうの歌声を聞いた聴衆はやせた木々の上の星だけだった黒い肌のさすらう歌姫たちはその羽根を見せびらかす事ができる。でもブラインド・ウィリー・マクテルのようにブルーズを歌える人は誰もいない。一人の女性が川辺にいて、立派で堂々とした若い男と一緒にいる。彼はまるで大地主のようにめかしこんでいるが、その手には密造ウィスキー。公の道には、チェイン・ギャング。反逆者たちの雄たけびが僕には聞こえる。そして僕にはわかっている。ブラインド・ウィリー・マクテルのようにブルーズを歌える人は誰もいないことを。天にまします神よ。あなたが手にされているというものを僕らもほしいんです。でも、手に入れたとしても、それは権力と強欲、腐敗の種にしかならないのかもしれない。僕はセント・ジェームス・ホテルの窓をじっと見つめている。そして僕にはわかる。ブラインド・ウィリー・マクテルのようにブルーズを歌える者は誰もいないことが。・・・
