Elvis recorded this song live several times, one of the first times being April 9, 1972 during his performance in Hampton Roads, VA which was seen in the documentary Elvis On Tour, and June 21, 1977 during the Elvis in Concert TV show filmed in Rapid City, SD. There are other versions available from 1972 during 1972 and 1973 that are also available. The live master, which I believe is the April 9, 1972 version, is available on Walk a Mile in My Shoes-The Essential 70s Masters. He also sang this song during the Aloha From Hawaii Satellite Concert January 14, 1973, which is where this version is from, which is available on the Aloha from Hawaii CD and Elvis Aron Presley silver box set.

Elvis sings "You Gave Me A Mountain" very unusual way and This Performance revealed his feelings at the time Priscilla was in the audience during this show... A dramatic version just underlining the fact that all is not well with Elvis mentally tonight. The following dialogue confirms this. Elvis tells the audience that this song "has nothing to do with me personally or my ex-wife Priscilla." It gets more and more embarassing as Elvis talks about his divorce settlement and Mike Stone.
