In the beginning of 1960, Elvis was demobbed and returned to Memphis. With his mother now gone and music changing, Elvis was less flamboyant than before. He would now concentrate primarily on ballads, helped by the fact that his voice had become richer. On March 20th recording began for the album Elvis Is Back! This was to be his first studio album since King Creole and the first to be recorded entirely in stereo. It produced the song The Girl Of My Best Friend, which became a top ten hit for the King.
