Elvis Presley Thats All Right, Mama Live Written by Arthur Crudup. Elvis recorded it July 5, 1954 at Sun Records-his first commercial recording there. It was the first Elvis record played on the radio. Dewey Phillips played it 14 times on his Red, Hot and Blue show and he received 47 telephone calls from listeners when it was played. Elvis interviewed on the program later that evening. The single did not chart nationally, but it reached #4 in Memphis. Fewer than 20000 copies were sold. The flip side was Blue Moon of Kentucky. Elvis sang it on his Grand Ole Opry appearance on October 2, 1954 and during his many appearances on the Louisiana Hayride and while touring the south in 54-56. Elvis also sang it in That's The Way It Is in 1970. Elvis also sang it June 21, 1977 in Rapid City, South Dakota, which was used in the TV Special Elvis in Concert.
