There are a few other songs on the CD that are played on acoustic guitar: Bob Dylan sings Pretty Boy Floyd; Bruce Springsteen sings I Ain't Got No Home; and Arlo Guthrie does East Texas Red. In Hobo's Lullaby, Emmylou Harris sings and plays guitar, and Mark O'Connor plays fiddle. The fiddle comes in at the beginning of the second chorus, and has a solo between the chorus and the second verse. I think the vocals are double-tracked on the last chorus. Emmylou Harris: Hobo's Lullaby
Another track from A Shared Vision, the tribute to Woody and Leadbelly
575. Hobo's Lullaby (Goebel Reeves)
Goebel Reeves, himself a hobo by choice, wrote this song to the tune of the Carter Family song "Thinking Tonight of my Blue Eyes". It has been recorded by Woody Guthrie, his son, Arlo Guthrie, Emmylou Harris, and Ramblin' Jack Elliot. You can see a playlist of the lullabies I sing here: www.youtube.com For lyrics and chords of my songs, please see my website: www.raymondcrooke.com
Hobo's Lullaby
One of my favorite of Arlo Guthrie's songs......who ever wrote it!

Jonathan Wilson, "Hobo's Lullaby"
"The mayor of Laurel Canyon", Jonathan Wilson, doing Hobo's Lullaby, a song written by Goebel Reeves and famously performed by various people including folk singer Woody Guthrie, his son Arlo Guthrie, Pete Seeger, Emmylou Harris, the Kingston Trio, and Ramblin' Jack Elliott. Its music is based on the Carter Family song "Thinking tonight of my blue eyes," which in turn derives its melodic structure from popular Civil War era composer George F. Root's song "Just before the Battle, Mother". Lyrics: Go to sleep, you weary hobo Let the town drift slowly by; Listen to the steel rails humming That's the hobo's lullaby. Do not think about tomorrow; Let tomorrow come and go. Tonight you have a nice warm boxcar Free from all the ice and snow. I know the police cause you trouble, They make trouble everywhere; But when you die and go to heaven, Well, you won't find police there. Now do not let your heart be troubled If the world calls you a bum; 'Cause if your mother lives, she loves you Well, you are still your mother's son
