LYRICS::
There are ladies in my life
Lovely ladies in these lazy days
And though I never took a wife
May I say that I have loved me one or two
Of the people in my past
Fading faces in a waking dream
And though they never seemed to last very long
There are faces I remember
From the places in my past
I said all the dead head miles
And the insincere smiles
Sometimes I can laugh and cry
And I can't remember why
But I still love those
Good times gone by
Hold on to them close or let them go, oh no
I don't know
I just seem to sing these songs
And say I'm sorry for the friends I used to know
Places In My Past
A James Taylor song dedicated to all my long lost friends...
James Taylor - Something in the Way She Moves
Something in the way she moves
Theres something in the way she moves,
Or looks my way, or calls my name,
That seems to leave this troubled world behind.
If Im feeling down and blue,
Or troubled by some foolish game,
She always seems to make me change my mind.
Chorus:
n(and) I feel fine anytime shes around me now,
Shes around me now
Almost all the time.
n(and) if Im well you can tell that shes been with me now,
n(and) shes been with me now
Quite a long, long time
And I feel fine.___________
Every now and then the things I lean on lose their meaning,
And I find myself careening
Into places where I should not let me go.
-- she has the power to go where no one else can find me,
Yes, and to silently remind me
Of the happiness and good times that I know, you know.
Well I said I just got to know that:
It isnt what shes got to say
Or how she thinks or where shes been.
To me, the words are nice, the way they sound.
I like to hear them best that way -
It doesnt much matter what they mean,
Weh (when/well? ) she says them mostly just to calm me down.
Chorus:
n(and) I feel fine anytime shes around me now,
A-shes around me now
Almost all the time.
If Im well you can tell that shes been with me now,
And shes been with me now
Quite a long,
Long
Time -
Yes, and I feel fine.___________
Wichita Lineman~Cover by David Scott Crawford
Music and words by Jimmy Webb.
I have been performing this song at various places over the years and it is one of my all time favorite songs. This morning, I happened to catch a video James Taylor performing this live in Stockridge, MA on 9/15/08 for Good Morning America. His cover version of this is great. A side note: I met Jimmy Webb who composed this song at a book signing a number of years ago, and he told me the song was inspired by a man working up on the power lines in Wichita while he was down there. (Like many, I used to think the song was about a railway man; not so.)
Anyway, I hope you like my version.

Bach - "Laßt uns sorgen, lasst uns wachen" (BWV 213) (4)
Johann Sebastian Bach - "Laßt uns sorgen, lasst uns wachen" (Hercules at the Crossroads) BWV 213:
6. Rezitativ - Tugend.
Mein hoffnungsvoller Held!
Dem ich ja selbst verwandt
Und angeboren bin,
Komm und erfasse meine Hand
Und höre mein getreues Raten,
Das dir der Väter Ruhm und Taten
Im Spiegel vor die Augen stellt.
Ich fasse dich und fühle schon
Die folgbare und mir geweihte Jugend.
Du bist mein echter Sohn,
Ich deine Zeugerin, die Tugend.
My most promising hero!
To whom I am myself related
and innate,
Come and take my hand
and listen to my loyal counsel,
which places your ancestors' fame and deeds
before you in a mirror.
I embrace you and sense already
an obedient and dedicated youth.
You are my very son,
I, Virtue, your nurturer.
2. Arie - Tugend
Auf meinen Flügeln sollst du schweben,
Auf meinem Fittich steigest du
Den Sternen wie ein Adler zu.
Und durch mich
Soll dein Glanz und Schimmer sich
Zur Vollkommenheit erheben.
On my wings you shall soar,
on my feathers you shall climb
to the stars like an eagle.
Through me
your brilliance and radiance
will be raised to perfection.
Akademie für Alte Musik.
